C-Section

Caesarean Section (C-Section) – Professional Gynaecology Services

A Caesarean section (C-section) is a surgical procedure used to deliver a baby through a carefully made incision in the mother’s abdomen and uterus. As a gynaecologist, my goal is to ensure that every mother receives safe, evidence-based, and compassionate care throughout pregnancy, delivery, and recovery.

What Is a C-Section?

C-section is usually performed when a vaginal birth is not the safest option for the mother or baby.
The incision is most commonly made horizontally across the lower abdomen, below the bikini line.
Although the procedure is common, it is still a major surgery and is carried out only when medically necessary or requested after counselling.

When Is a C-Section Recommended?

C-section may be planned (elective) or performed in an emergency. Reasons include:

  • Baby in the breech position, and turning techniques (ECV) are unsuccessful or declined
  • Low-lying placenta (placenta praevia)
  • Pre-eclampsia or pregnancy-induced high blood pressure
  • Baby not receiving enough oxygen or nutrients, requiring urgent delivery
  • Labour not progressing, or heavy vaginal bleeding
  • Medical concerns or severe maternal anxiety regarding vaginal birth

If you are experiencing fear or anxiety about childbirth, you will receive full counselling and emotional support to help you make the best decision for your health and your baby.

What Happens During a C-Section?

Most C-sections are done under spinal or epidural anesthesia, meaning you will be awake but pain-free from the waist down.

During the procedure:

  • A screen is placed so you cannot see the surgical area
  • A 10–20 cm incision is made to deliver your baby
  • You may feel gentle tugging or pressure
  • If both mother and baby are well, you can hold your baby immediately
  • In cases of fetal distress, the baby may be taken to a paediatrician right away for assessment
  • The surgery usually takes 40–50 minutes

In rare situations requiring immediate delivery, a general anesthesia may be used.

Recovery After a C-Section

Recovery typically takes longer than after a vaginal birth. Most mothers can go home within 1–2 days, depending on their condition.

You may experience:

  • Abdominal discomfort for a few days (pain relief will be provided)
  • Limited mobility initially
  • Restrictions on activities such as lifting, exercise, and driving until your 6-week postnatal check

The incision will heal gradually, forming a scar that usually fades over time and sits low enough to be hidden in the pubic hairline.

Cesarean (C-Section) Delivery Services

A C-section is a surgical delivery performed when vaginal birth may pose risks to the mother or baby. I perform planned and emergency C-sections with a strong emphasis on safety, hygiene, and post-delivery care.

Common Reasons for C-Section:

  • Medical emergencies (placental abruption, cord prolapse)
  • Breech baby presentation
  • Multiple pregnancies (twins or triplets)
  • Previous C-section history
  • Maternal medical conditions
  • Baby distress during labor
  • Large baby (cephalopelvic disproportion)

High-Risk Pregnancy Care

Some pregnancies require extra medical attention due to potential risks to the mother or baby. I specialize in managing high-risk pregnancies with advanced monitoring, diagnosis, and supportive care.

You are never alone during a high-risk pregnancy. I offer reassurance, close supervision, and expert medical decisions tailored to your individual needs.

What Is a High-Risk Pregnancy?

A pregnancy is classified as high-risk when conditions increase the likelihood of complications during pregnancy or delivery. Even healthy pregnancies can become high-risk over time, making regular medical supervision crucial.

Factors That May Increase Pregnancy Risk:

  • Advanced maternal age
  • Lifestyle factors
  • Pre-existing medical conditions
  • Pregnancy-related complications

Early identification and proper management significantly improve outcomes for both mother and baby.
